Description
PT-76 Soviet and Warsaw Pact Amphibious Light Tank
During the Second World War the Red Army mastered and rapidly expanded bridging and ferrying operations. In the immediate post-war era it was understood that the Soviet Union needed to rapidly develop a new generation of modern amphibious tanks. Priority was given to the development of an amphibious light reconnaissance tank with sufficient firepower to establish and hold bridgeheads. The PT-76 amphibious tank would become the main vehicle in Soviet and Warsaw Pact amphibious operations in the Cold War decades to come. This is the first comprehensive coverage of the PT-76 in Soviet Army, Polish Army and East German Army Service.
